EXEAT
Releasing the patterns of boarding school
with Fiona Shaw
Saturday 7th November 10am - 6pm
Sunday 8th November 10.30am - 2pm
Colet House, 151 Talgarth Road, London W14
The effects of boarding school are remarkably consistent:
an experience that rewarded self-reliance, emotional containment and performance,
at the expense of intimacy, self expression and acceptance.
It’s often overlooked in therapy and coaching, so we’re offering a weekend for ex-boarders, using specific tools to work on old patterns:
Systemic/ family constellations, somatic work, journeying and peer connection.
The system.
It’s a tricky tangle:
- To call it a wound, when it was given as a privilege, can feel disloyal, or ungrateful.
- Boarding school also bestowed gifts - status, strength, network, resilience. To even treat it as a wound can feel awkward, a bit pathetic or just entitled.
We’ll use the constellations to untangle these internal conflicts. This then allows us to reach the childhood adaptations; behaviours that may have worked at school, but are now keeping us stuck in old patterns of relating and being.
Journeying to the past.
My dear friend and exceptional facilitator Fiona Shaw (https://www.birthingthesoul.co.uk/) is a master of journey work - the skill of finding our way to our hidden or lost parts, for transformation. Even after so long, there is potential for softening, and release.
Evolving our relationships.
We know that going to boarding school has a dramatic impact on attachment style - which means the way we do relationships. We will explore the ways this shows up in our personality structures and embodied stances, and find ways to step into a freer, looser more playful version of ourselves.
We should not expect - or even want - to change who we are. But we can evolve and become more integrated. We can create new ‘behavioural pathways’ that change how we show up in relationships.
This short weekend is designed to be serious but not ponderous. Deep but also humourful. To return to the past for a weekend visit, to create movement, insight and freedom.
